"It all begins with drawing. The drawing is the first idea. It is personal, intimate, uninhibited. Drawings can be measured, painstakingly deliberate, or spontaneous."
Artists at Cape Dorset have been drawing since the mid-1950's, creating a vast treasure trove of original work that reveals the Inuit imagination and way of life. In recent years, drawings have become the contemporary face of the Kinngait Studios. Changes in scale and media have opened up new possibilities for several younger artists, who are creating works - often monumental in execution - that reflect a new perception of a new north.
